Items required

  • Bucket
  • Stiff or scrub brush
  • Towels
  • White vinegar

  1. Sweep any loose debris from the carpet
  2. Take a bucket and fill it with water half way, then add mild laundry detergent
  3. Take a towel and dip it in the bucket
  4. Blot the carpet. But remember not to oversaturate
  5. Mix 1 part of white vinegar with 2 parts of warm water in a spray bottle
  6. Spray the carpet with the vinegar solution
  7. Use a brush to scrub the solution deep in the carpet fibers
  8. Sprinkle a generous amount of baking soda on the carpet and let it sit for an hour
  9. Sweep or vacuum the baking soda from the carpet
  10. Pour 5-8 drops of essential oil in a spray bottle and add 1 cup of water
  11. Spray on the staircase and use a fan or a dehumidifier to dry the carpet

Method 2: Cleaning Carpet on Stairs Using a Machine

Items required

  • Vacuum cleaner
  • Carpet cleaner
  • Heavy duty steamer

Step-by-step procedure

  1. Pick all tangible objects from your carpet staircase
  2. Ensure your vacuum’s filter is clean
  3. Run the vacuum smoothly through the carpet, to remove loose dirt. But vacuum from top to bottom
  4. Fill the carpet cleaner with detergent and water (as per the instructions in the manual)
  5. Run the cleaner back and forth, left and right
  6. Make sure to cover each step slowly
  7. Move each section twice
  8. Use both the wet and dry vacuum cleaner
  9. Set it to wet to rinse of the shampoo during cleaning
  10. Set to dry to suck the excess water from carpet
  11. Use a steam cleaner to remove any mildew or mold in the carpet fibers
  12. Run the steam cleaner on hot setting then run the vacuum cleaner back and forth
  13. Allow the area to sit for 1 hour
